The Royal Oak collection is named after the Royal Oak battleship because of its octagonal shape cannon scuttles. The boat itself was named after the oak which saved King Charles II from an attack in 1651. The tree had since become symbolic for protection and power. The collection retains the same design since it was launched in 1972, to celebrate its 40th anniversary this watch comes in a new 41mm dimension.
The 41mm diameter case is made of 18 carat rose gold with a distincive octagonal bezel and glareproof scratch resistant sapphire crystal . The black "Grande Tapisserie" pattern dial includes rose gold applied markers and hands with a luminescent coating and date display. Selfwinding calibre 3120 movement with a 60 hour power reserve made up of 280 parts and 40 jewels.
The watch is secured with a "large scale" black crocodile strap with a folding clasp. Water resistant to 50 metres.
